Default Help me decide: SD780is or SD940is?

I've always enjoyed Canon cameras, and am currently using a SD300 which is nearing 5 years old.

I'd like to upgrade to a new compact point and shoot I can use when I travel or take photos of the kids. I'm leaning towards the 780is, but also noticed the 940is which is many months newer. Any recommendations if there is a significant difference between the two models?

(I'm sure some other folks have gone thru this exact same decision process..)

the sd940is has a wide angle lens, which would be a nice advantage over the 780.

my hesitation with the SD940 is that there is no Optical Viewfinder. Has anyone else overcome a fear of missing optical viewfinder and changed habits to rely on the screen?

davidyal-

Welcome to the Forum. We're delighted that you dropped by.

The camera market has made a huge change in the last 5 years. Today cameras with an optical viewfinder have become very rare indeed. In reviewing photos from the SD-780, it is apparent that the focus of the design was to create a camera with HD video, on which you could zoom while filming. Still photos came along almost as a second thought, and they are not very good image quality.

I think that you would be much better served by the SD-940. Have a great day.
