Default SD940is focusing tip needed

While in Auto Focus mode with my new SD940is, the green focus box does not always go to my intended subject. According to the User Manual, the only way to avoid this is to set it to Manual "P" mode and use the Center Focus setting. Does this compromise other Auto features when I go into this Manual mode? Is there a trick to getting the green focus box on the subject in Auto Focus mode?

Saly-

Actually is preferable to shoot in the "P" or Programed Auto Mode because the Auto Mode and the Programed Auto are essentially exactly the same. But the Programed Auto mode has a huge advantage: in that mode you no have access to valuable tools that are on your camera and the you, have no access to when you are in the AUTO Mode.

Here is a list of what you have in the "P" Mode and NOT in the Auto Mode.

*all of your ISO settings

* exposure compensation

*all of your flash modes

*access to all of your focusing modes

*and the list just goes on and on...

By shooting in the "P" mode, it is exactly like shooting in the AUTO Mode, but you also have access to all of the other features on your camera.

Thanks Sarah!! So, if I understand you correctly, by putting my SD940is in P mode, it still automatically sets exposure, flash, etc, and I don't have to set them manually. This makes life so much easier. I was going crazy trying to get the auto focus green box on my subject while the camera kept trying to focus on something else! Also is it normal for my video to be jerky if I move the camera around?

Yes, your SD-940 camera works just as advertised, and they way you want it in the "P" for Programed Auto Mode. Panning (swiveling) during a video has to be done slowly and gradually, or it looks jerky.
