Default Canon G11 Date reset issues

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with their G11 where the date requests a setting when you turn it on. I've had the camera since mid-nov and love it but these past 2 months 3x's now I've turned the camera on and its asking for the date/time to be set as though I have never done it.

Is there firmware available for this to correct the issue or is it something I'm going to have to chance at Canon's repair centre?

you probably need to take it in. Most cameras have either a capacitor, or an internal battery that keeps the date and time going. It looks like yours may not be working.

If you've left a fully charged battery in it overnight and still see the issue, I'd send it back to Canon.

That model has an internal button cell battery that is charged from main camera battery (hence the need to leave the main battery in it for a while to charge the internal battery). If the internal battery is not taking and holding a charge, it's probably defective (and I have seen posts from other G11 owners with the same issue).

Thanks guys. Yes, the battery cell is usually charged so it leads me to believe JimC that you've diganosed it properly. Back it will go.....thank you very much for replying.
