Default Canon 570IS Lens Stuck

My trusty Canon 570IS is stuck. The lens will not open and advance like it should. The batteries are fresh. An error message indicating lens error is displayed.

I've got a few miles on the camera, perhaps 10,000 shots over the few years we've owned it.

Is this the life expectancy of a P&S? Anything to fix it? Spray it with WD40?

Thanks for the help!

Code 18 has struck again-

Hi Jim-

No, there is not much that can be done, excepting sell it off for parts. Its a function of wear and tear. You can find a working used on for around $30 on E-Bay. I would venture the appraisal that you got a lot of good shots out of it.
