Default Shooting question re: A80

After a lot of research I bought an A80 along with a i900d (good deal with the recent Canon rebate) so I can try out photography as a hobby and also instantly print the tons of pics of our new kid.

My question is when I try to use the Macro function and shoot something very close, I can't get the camera to focus on the object that I want. It usually focuses on something in the backgroud instead.

How can select what I want to shoot?

I usually shoot on AUTO but I guess I have to start learning about the camera's other functions?

Do you switch the focus mode to macro? This happens to me when I try to focus on a close object when the camera is in the normal focus mode. Also, you might try the central point autofocus mode - this would insure you focus on the right object.

I also had to change to the center point focus to get the macro to be sharp, now it does a great job.Tealblue
