Default Canon SX30 - amazing closeup shots

I bought this camera to take pictures at my son's middle school football games. We're always sitting or standing far from the action on the field, but with this camera I can get amazing closeup shots even at 35x zoom (SX30 35x zoom simulator: http://canon-sx30.blogspot.com/ ). I'm even able to capture the expression on his face during plays (ok, so I don't really follow the game, I just want to have some cool pics of him playing it). It's an easy camera to operate, just point and shoot. It must have some impressive image stabilization features because even handheld at maximum zoom, the pictures are clear. It weighs over a pound and its dimensions are aprox 4.5 x 3.5 x 4.5 inches. If you don't want use a bulky camera bag, I've found that it fits with some room to spare, in the "Zing 565-421 STB1 X-Large Stuff Pouch" which I purchased from this site.
