Default Birding With Canon SX30 IS

A few shots taken with the Canon SX30 IS. The first shot of the junco was shot at 1/25s at full zoom from about 35 feet away; shot in Aperture mode. The detail appears to be very good for this distance, and the IS worked exceptionally well for a handheld shot with a relatively slow shutter speed.

A resized OOC photo of the junco is posted at my Flickr account (link below).

A couple more photos of a sparrow shot from about the same distance as the junco. Pixel peeping will reveal slight PF; bonus was the spider beneath the branch - right side of the sparrow. Shot in late evening - shady conditions (thick woods).

I'm also a Fuji HS10 user; the Canon grabs a bit more distance. I feel that both cameras are great with the Canon holding the edge for birding purposes.

If you have any Canon SX30 IS shots, please feel free to share them in this thread.

Cheers!
Jada

Really nice Jada...those look very nice...very well done and the SX30 did a good job...

I am going to give the SX30 another try...it is getting some great detail!...I am thinking it was my error as I was shooting from a running vehicle braced on the door...IS is a tool not a miracle worker...lol...

Very nice! I was VERY tempted to get the SX30 however, I'm rather "hooked" on the manual zoom of the HS-10. I got used to it with my old Olympus SP-570 and feel I get a little better control over zoom. My other camera is a DSLR so it just feels like a better fit.

Default To LTZ & gjtoth

Thank you both very much for your nice comments!

I have a bird blind that was purchased last year & I'm hoping to set that up from time to time and get closer to the birds. They are easily spooked right now and I'm hoping that more migrate into the area. Better yet - an Ivory Billed Woodpecker. :-)

Thank you both for viewing and taking time to comment. Much appreciated.

Post more, Jada...

I know you've got tons of excellent stuff that many over here would really enjoy, and
I'd like to see them again myself as well...
