Default USA limited warranty issue

Hi y'all!
Im based in the UK, and am thinking of buying a digital camera (either a Canon Powershot A80 Sony S50 or Sony DCSV1 ) from the USA online (possibly from B&H - if you know as good or better place, please tell!, any suggestions welcome).
Ive notice that they include a USA limited warranty - my main question is does anyone know what companies will honour the warranty outside the USA.
Has anyone experienced this problem or anything like it?

Hi
Try contacting Canon UK Customer Service on 0208 773 6561 for the full SP. They say that "officially" they cannot honour non-UK warranties. I got the impression that they would fix it "as a goodwill gesture". They admit it is a problem as Sony and Panasonic have International warranties. They are looking at it but not resolved it yet.
I am considering the 10D with lenses, in the US 1500 / UK 2100. Don't want to risk it so going UK route for now.

Take a look at the Canon FAQ:

Q. What is Canon's EOS camera warranty?

A. All models distributed by Canon USA have a 1 year parts & labor warranty which is valid worldwide.
You might try pointing that out to Canon UK :-)

Spoke with Canon UK this morning on this - Warranty Hotline 0870 122 6543.
Certainly, this does apply to all FILM EOS SLR cameras. They are not so confident on Digital SLRS. They initially have said yes, but are checking it out. I'm waiting for an email now.
The problem is, apparently, cameras sold in US are made in one country, those sold in Europe in another. Therefore, compatability issues may exist with the components inside.
Incidentally, only covers SLRs, not non-slr digicams.

I wouldn't hold your breath...[/quote]
