Default Latest testing photos with Canon SX 40 HS

Just yesterday received my dream camera and had a chance to take some bird photos around my home. You can review them uploaded to Flicker >> http://www.flickr.com/groups/1801939.../6317644447/:D

So far I am happy with picture quality of SX 40 By the way I am not sure what is the best mode / settings to apply for Bird photography. I try with FULL AUTO and Program mode most of the time but some times AF did not work properly. I even try AF Tracking ON to locate the birds when they move here and there but it loose the focus

Later tested again with Sports Mode still I am not happy. I heard there is High Speed Burst mode and looking forward to try that as well. If anyone used that mode before let me know how it works. Thanks.

I would try using shutter priority, with a minimum of 1/250th sec- adjusting the iso accordingly to give you that shutter speed(maybe auto iso if available),switch to centre area focus- using that area as a "target",making sure your subject is in that area prior to half pressing shutter(for focus)- then just "fire" as it were!!
The burst mode may help, capturing a few frames quickly- quite handy for twitchy birds..!
Beware though, that even a stray branch in the line of view may make the camera choose that for its chosen focus...
