Default Canon A590 on Manual Mode.....ISO

Hi, I have some questions on trying out manual mode..... in daylight conditions, without using flash, I find that I must use a high ISO level(800) or the screen just doesn't display. On auto ISO 80 is fine. Is this normal?

Sorry, do you mean lower tv to 1/200 and then in increments down to 1/60? It's currently set to 1/500

1/20 is near-perfect. Nice camera but the automatic settings give a really "bland" result. Maybe "P" settings would be easier. I'm new to a lot of this stuff, having fun! Thanks for your help and your patience.
