Default A80 Flash in Auto mode

Hi I have just bought an A80 to replace an A20. Can anyone tell me why even in fairly bright conditions the flash often goes off in Auto mode. This occurs particularily if zoom is used. This may seem a very basic question but I did not have the same problem with the A20. Thanks

Hi Rocky,
Sounds like your flash is set to fire at all times. see p.64 in your manual for various settings.

Hi Ed. What I mean is if the camera is set to auto and the flash is set to auto the flash seems to go off even in fairly bright light. I accept that it can be turned off in auto mode but always defaults to automatic flash. I just wanted to know if it is normal. The flash on my A20 seemed to only go off if the light was fairly dim.
Hope this makes sense.

In fact, flash is usually useful even in bright conditions - it makes the foreground brighter. I wouldn't be sorry it goes off in bright conditions, moreover that there is no red eye problem in this case.

Hi Rocky,
Yes, when the camera is set to the Auto Mode, the flash defaults to auto setting as well. the camera is more then likley detecting the need for ( fill flash ) if your subject is against a strong backlight.
