Default Newby S-400 resloution and compression question

This S-400 is my first digi cam and so far, it's been pretty user freindly. My question is about the resolution and compression settings.
I'm not sure which settings I should use. I don't plan on printing lot's of pics but you never know when you might want to print an 8x10. Is is smart to always use L and super fine or should I drop down to M1 and fine. Is there a setting that usually will work for most pics or am I suposed to adjust it for each outing. I'm a little confused on this. I am hoping there is some easy rule of thumb I can go by. In the future, my plans are to record to DVD or Cd for most pics, if that helps.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,

Rick

I use L superfine and use a 256M CF card. If you dont have a problem filling up the flash card before you are done shooting use the best settings. If you do, you can go down a notch on the res or go to fine instead of superfine.

Just use the highest quality all the time unless you don;t have enough flash card space. If you run out of space stick with the highest res just lower it to fine.
