Default S50 is dead! Do I wait for new sensor technology?

Within it's first year of use, my Canon S50 has stopped giving me a "through the lense" image and Best Buy says they're willing to 1) give me a refund; 2) try to locate a new S50 replacement; or 3) send my original S50 in for repair; at my option.

I've enjoyed this camera very much although I must admit I haven't used many of its features or become well-practiced in those I do use. My choice of options is complicated by the recent news that a new sensor technology may be superior to CCD and CMOS sensors. Should I get my money back and wait for better things? Stay with the S50 for which I at least have some knowledge and satisfaction?

Thanks in advance for any opinions you might have.

I recommend you getting Canon S60. Its the newer version of the S50.

Do you mean the Foveon X3? If so, I don't think it's in mass production yet and will probably be awhile before the price comes down to what you paid for the S50. Depending on how much difference between what you paid for the S50 and what the S60 costs now, you may want to consider the upgrade.
