Default PowerShot SX50HS

I am having trouble getting vivid, clear photos, and I'm sure it's something I am not doing right with the settings. These pictures attached are just examples. I used the P setting and hoping someone can look at the properties and tell me what I need to do differently. Attached, one inside (terrible, I think) and one outdoors (doesn't look too bad unless you zoom in).
