Default A80 vs. S500

Hi. I'm looking to buy a first digital camera with excellent picture quality and have heard good things about the Canons. Any thoughts re. A80 vs. S500?

Two different cameras. The A80 is 4mp, but offers manual control and the ability to add lenses.

The S500 has a higher res, is aluminum, and has a better battery system. But it offers less control over the exposure.

I guess it depends on what your intended use is. Personally I'd go with the S500 though.

You'd go with the S500 for the reasons you've highlighted? any other reasons?

Thanks.
