Hi, I'm new to this so I have no idea what I'm really do. I just wanted to know what my total optical zoom will be after adding the official canon telephoto lense onto my canon powershot a70? I have no idea on how to do this Sorry but thanks!

I'm not sure about this , but i think it will be 7.2 zoom. :-)

Is 7.2 a good amount of zoom for catching animals, etc?

The Canontele zoom accessory for your camerais a 2.4X add-on. The longest tele length built-in to the a70 is 16.2, so the maximum tele length with the add-on is 38.88mm, which is, I think, around 190mm or 200mm effective 35mm equivalent. At distances of, maybe 10-20 feet that'll get you fairly close.
