I'm going crazy deciding between the two cameras. I thought I had made up my mind and had my heart set on the s60, but then people on the dpreview boards were complaining about softness in the corners because of the wide angle lens.

Here's what i'm looking for in a camera: excellent photo quality (this is my main concern), small size (i plan on getting a DSLR later, and this camera will supplement it), manual features... and add on lenses/filters would be a bonus

Things I'm not so concerned about: ergonomics, movie mode

Given the choice, which would you pick, and why?

I'd go with the S50 because:

1) The S60 is driving the S50's price down

2) I think the color-rendering in Canon cameras is more accurate than that found in Sony.

Well, what it comes down to is: you'll be having a lot of fun with your new toy (call it a "tool" if it makes you feel better ). I'm sure you'll be happy with any of them, but I'd say S50. Of course, it's just pure personal preference.

It's funny you should say that... I was checking prices on www.cameracanada.com, and the S60 was actually cheaper than the s50... a friend of mine told me that this is a normal occurence, the A75 debuted at a lower price than the A70 was selling for at the same time.

I was looking at the comparo between the G5 and the V1, and I do agree that the color rendering of the Canon was better. I'm not sure if it'll be the same between these cameras.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though
