Hi all

I am new to photography and recently got a Canon s410.

I feel that pictures come out fine in AUTO mode during the day. However,I am not sure about how to shoot pictures at night without a flash. Is it true that its very hard to get pics without a blur when using a Digital Camera without a tripod at night?

Thanks

Vinesh.

There are a few things you can do.

Firstly, yes it is a good idea to use a tripod, in some situations though, it is not practical to do so.

You can also increase the ISO via the menu to 100, which already makes a big difference. The camera allows you to go as high as 400, the greater the number, the higher the sensitivity to light. However, noise, ie grain starts to show at 200 and is more evident at 400.
However, if you don't want to print larger than a 4x6, it might be fine.
These are things you can check out for yourself.

Sorry abt the delay, but thanx.

Also, would increasing the ISO help reduce the blur??

yes, as the camera is more receptive to light. If you increase to 400, there will be least blur but there will be more noise (cf to grain in film). For night street shots, I increase to 200, and steady the camera against something, take a deep breath and shoot, and most of the time it works.
