If I don't get a G5 my alternative choice is to buy a Powershot S50. Size matters and I fear a G5 might not get taken out so much... I will want to shoot some portraits. I realise the depth-of-field is deep with this choice. I guess I have no option but to shoot at a mid to longish focal length.

I have however seen a few good portraits where the background is thrown sufficiently out of focus to give bite to the actual head and shoulders. What is the widest f-stop at mid/long focal lengths? Any techniques/tips gratefully received. Can anyone give me a link to sites with good portraits shot with the S50? Thanks,

Steve
