After the update does the camera shut down on its own? What happens when a firmware update fails?

I took my Canon S1 IS to the Canon Service place last Friday. They wanted to see my Bill of Sale and Warranty - which I produced.

When I enquired about it today (Tuesday) they said it should be ready by the end of this week (Friday).

A whole week seems like a long time for a job of this sort & I don't like the delay, but I still feel safer to have left it to the Canon Service Agents.

Thanks for post ariecanon. I will check to see what firmware version it is. As for your fear about upgrading and having it go wrong - remember that this is not Microsoft so things should go reasonably well.

PS - Dutch women must make great pictures.

Willis -

One of the pages that the first post in this thread links to says -

"Note 1. The downloaded files must be unpacked on the same computer that runs the UploadFirmware program."

That sentence alone puts me off. I think you'd be better advised to take your camera to a Canon Service Centre & have them do it.

Can someone tell me how to find and select "firmware update" in the review mode? Can`t locate it. I have it unzipped and copied to the card. Thanks.

I've done the firmware update; checked with ZoomBrowserEX that the camera firmware version is 1.0.1.0.

However, I do not see a difference from version 1.0 - while
half pressing the shutter release there is still a (split second) freeze. :-(
Didn't check the exposure fix, yet.

Hmmm, just realized that my camera was on single AF, not the defualt continuous AF... So it's OK.

Hey! I also installed this new firmware and it easy to do it. Just follow the instructions carefully and also make sure that your batteries are newly charged.

PS: Didn't noticed any major improvement after upgradingit!!! :?
