I am looking to get a 5MP digital camera to replace my Minolta Dimage E323. I am thinking of getting into photography a bit, but am wondering if I should really spend more for something I might not use, considering I once had a EOS500N 35mm SLR, and never used it in other than Auto mode.

If I require the following, will the S500 be enough:
-Good night shots
-Those long-exposure waterfall style shots
-Panoramic landscapes (that S60 wide-angle lens sounds great)
-Amateur outdoor sports shots

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Forgot to mention that the A80 is part of the choice too, but its bulk and non-uniform 'pocketable' design puts me off. When is the follow-on to the A80 expected?
