I have a Canon A80 as well, mine works fine in bright light, I do a lot of surf photography and outdoor photography. I set mine to the P setting, and then change the white balance mode to outdoor, which looks like a sun with sunbeams. That should fix the problem, although I have no problem even if I'm simply in auto mode.

Tried all of the settings and all of the white balance, flash, etc -- no change. I have been told that it might be the shutter is open too long. This means replacing the lens and shutter assembly.
