For what it's worth, someone wrote:

Has anyone played with Hyperfocal settings to address the low light indoor focus settings? This has improved my indoor captures 100%! I too was a bit disappointed at first with focusing indoors, but soon realized that this is not a SLR or super high end prosumer model. For $311 I purchased a great Point and shoot equivalent with a 10x zoom and many adjustable settings. It is also relatively small with IS too!

yes, I'm actually a strong advoate of this method aswell.
I got tired of hearing all the online complaints so I posted this in any thread that complained about low light focusing..

Keep up the good work!

I just posted this in the thread about flash exposure on the S1IS with a pic:

I use hyperfocal settings indoors as follows:

set in aperture priority mode:

f5.6, flash on auto, iso 50, manual focus to approx 3 ft, white balance to flash setting, zoom to widest angle (i.e. no telephoto at all) then go to menu and save as custom setting. Just switch to "c" mode when shooting indoors. This eliminates indoor focus problems as everything from about 2 ft and out will be in focus. Only thing is that this will preclude the use of the zoom - should not be an issue for indoor shots anyway...

:?NOT AGAIN, IF THERE IS ONE AVAILABLE, I WILL BUY IT RIGHT AWAY.

I THOUGH THE RUMOUR IS DEAD AFTER THE PHOTO SHOW IN FEB/05, BUT IF THERE IS ANY NEW CAMERA ANNOUNCEMENT, SHOULD IT BE SOMETIME IN SEPT./05? IT SOUNDS LOGICAL THAT THE NEW S2 WILL BE WITH 5MP AND 12X OPTICAL ZOOM. IF SO, THIS WILL BE THE BEST CAMERA IN THE MARKET. I AM WAITING. HOPEFULLY THE PRICE IS RIGHT - LOW -.

So the S2 IS has finally been released, but how does it compare to the FZ20 which up to now, and still may be, the benchmark in it's class.

The S2 seems promising, but early reviews I have read the lens is still not as good as the FZ20 and it has troubles focusing at extreme zooms.
