I think the A95 is the one on the left & the one on the right is the S1 IS.

Yes, you are right Herb. Isn't a lot better than the S1? After all we all go after PQ. I think I will go with the A95. I just cannot get over how nice the pictures come out from this machine.

Celo - I agree, Picture Quality's hard to resist. But then I start to compare the A95 with the G6....& .I think that the G6 is probably even better?

In the end I guess it's largely a matter of what we can afford & what will satisfy us - & we all decide to draw the line somewhere, eh?

I think the S1 is better. You can barely see the car in the A95 picture.:G

G6 is $700 I bet it is better It should be. A95 really stands out with the PQ and that matters the most to me. I would buy the G6 if I could afford it, no question about it.

JackTheHat: That's a good one

It certainly can't be denied that the A95 has good picture quality - within its 3x zoom range.

However, remember that the A95 is limited to 3x zoom. If you enlarge part of a picture taken by the A95 at 3x zoom, I wonder how it compares to a picture of the same thing taken by the S1 IS, using, say, 7x or 10x zoom so that it fills the frame?

I don't know the answer, not having seen a side-by-side comparison. I wonder what other people think?

once you staret taking pictures over 3x zoom, there is absoluately no question that s1 is more superior than the camera with maxium of 3x, go head and buy the s1 and enjoy it.

The thought occurs to me that the 5 megapixels of the A95 may make up - to some extent - for it not having more than 3x zoom. But to what extent?

I can imagine that the A95 at 3x zoom can equal the S1 IS at, say, 5x or even 6x zoom. But at 8x to 10x zoom? I wonder where is the cross-over point where the S1 IS draws ahead?

Nope...

Because resolution is computed by multiplying width x height (like area), it takes 4 times the resolution (not twice the resolution) to maintain the same amount of subject detail in pixels per inch, compared to using twice as much optical zoom.

You mean the 5 megapixels can't make up - even to a small extent - for the lack of more zoom than 3x?

Not that I care much - I bought the S1 IS - and I'm glad I did!
