Okay, My S400 has been rattling more than normal and the photos are finally getting blurred and lack of focus on most objects. I remember a few months ago, when I heard it making an extremely loud rattle (not the normal orientation sensor that I read about and was accustomed to), I knew its days were numbered.
So, my options as I see it are as follows:

Should I try to fix it myself even though I have 0 knowledge of cameras and really don't know where to begin?

Should I send it to Canon under their upgrade/replacement program where I mail them my S400 and approx $200(can't remember exact price, possibly as much as $275) and receive a refurbished S410 w/ factory warranty.

Or is there a newer better (preferably smaller) camera that accomplishes everything that I liked about the S400?
Thanks in advance.
