I had ordered a Powershot SD300 (from newegg.com) a couple weeks ago and received a defect. A small group of pixels would show up as an orange dot which was somewhat noticeable at around 50% zoom, and noticeable at 100%. Same place in the picture, in every picture I took. I'd upload a couple samples, but I'm on 56k right now.

I received my replacement today and was very disappointed to find that this camera also had the same defect. A pixel would come out as a small white dot, fairly noticeable at 100% zoom and always in the same spot in every picture (different spot from my first camera though).

Is this a common problem on this camera? Is it really a big defect, or will I keep seeing it in every exchange I get? I'm getting a full refund from Newegg and I wonder if I should bother buying a new one from either Dell or a walk-in store?

I don't think switching retailers would do much because these are packaged goods (and I don't think the defect is due to storage or shipping damage).

Any other SD300 owners run into this problem?

I've got one as well, but don't have the problem you mention. Maybe just (very) bad luck ? (Though I do love my camera so am probably a bit biased )

My firstone had a bad pixel in the LCD so I traded it for another one and this one seems fine.

OK well I returned it to newegg and bought one from Best Buy. The one from Best Buy had no problem at all, which leads me to suspect Newegg of selling refurbished cameras.
