I read user reviews somewhere and someone said Canon had put something in with the flash that provided an i.e. AF assist lamp? pre-flash? for the thing to focus on???

Anyone know anything about that? Perhaps there is another firmware update???

With "red-eyes on" a little lamp will light when You are using the flash. For very short distance it will help, but ISN'T a AF-assist lamp:roll:

Forget AF-assist lamp in low lighting situations and use hyperfocal instead.

Thanks,

I was wondering. That is what all red-eye reductions do is a little flash that closes the iris reducing reflection as I understand it. I knew it was too good to be true. And the manual does work with this camera once you figure it out.

I still love my S1.

yeah, whatever. Let's hope an S2 is coming out soon or my love for my S1 will very quickly transmogrify into my love for a panasonic FZ15K.
