Default Does Ixus v3(S230) really need a high speed CompactFlash?

I'm going to buy a Canon Digital Ixus v3 (Digital Elph S230 in USA) and I have read that this camera needs a "high speed CompactFlash card like Canon FC-256MH to use the video capture mode.
Is it really necesary?
How can I know if the card I will buy will be fast enough?
What really happens if the card isn't so fast? Does it stop recording sooner or doesn't it start recording?

Thank you very much and sorry because my English, but it isn't my mother tongue.

I tested my s230 with a generic "Mr. Flash" compactflash card and did not have any problems recording movies.

I have Lexar 12x 256 CF for my S230, it is quicker than using regular sandisk cards.
