Thanks J5,

My thoughts exactly, I actually went backwards (from a megapixel standpoint) when I bought the S1 IS. And it has more than met my needs.

"But you know what? I bought it anyway because it seemed like the camera that would best meet my requirements in the price range that I was looking. I decided that I could live withthe veryfewminor shortcomings of this particular model. I doubt that any model can make everyone happy. Perhaps this is the reason why there are so many camera models to choose from.

Is my Canon camera perfect? No it's not. Does it do everything that I want it to? No. But for the money I have no need to complain as it is a very good value. I'm not disappointed in any way. I am a happy Canon customer."

Unless I'm going for minimum weight/size, I always use the lens adapter and Uv filter on the S1. This protect the lens and mechanism from dirt dust etc. I also have the 3yr extended warranty.

I've not had the E18 error, but I have had lens failure which was a result of the same problem with my A70. I could have gotten a replacment with no problems If I had the extended warranty but I did'nt have it . Anyhow, this time I do have it.

However, I used that A70 in dusty, dirty dance circles at outdoor festivals. I used it in smoke filled bars and dance clubs and next to fog machines! So it could hardly not be expected to have happened. besides, if it were still working I would'nt have the S1 now, because I only upgrade when absolutley necssary. I'm actually going to buy the underwater case for it so it will be protected from the elements not to mention be able to dive with it!

Canon tried to put all the features they hope everybody wants and fit it into a compact frame, and a 320 dollar price range.

The result is the S1 IS. Now in some forums I've read somebody is very happy for his S1 IS 10x optical zoom. Says he enjoy using it a lot. Then he goes on complaining that the camera is not as compact as compared to other 3.2 megapixel digital cameras. Hello? Where would you expect canon to put the zoom lens? You want the zoom, you have to sacrifice something in return, be realistic.

And those of you complaining about the 1.5 inch LCD screen. Didn't it occur to you that maybe it was designed that way to make way for it's swivel feature? Would you rather have a 2 inch LCD screen and lose the swivel feature? I prefer the swivel feature anytime!

And how about those complaining about the AF Assist Lamp? If you are advanced enough to appreciate the S1 IS features, you wouldn't worry about an AF Assist Lamp. Ever heard of manual focusing? Sure, auto is great, but you will learn later on that nothing beats manual, because it allows you to make effects 'auto' modes cannot.

Those complaining about movie mode, get a Mini DV! The movie mode in S1 IS is an added feature should you be in a position to want to capture a rare video. While it boast of video taking capability, it does not claim to replace a dedicated video camcorder. This is a still camera, don't forget what it is.

How about the 3.2 megapixel limit? You don't like it, then get another camera. People should learn to understand that it's not about megapixels, it's about how good you take your shots. If what you think of a good shot is getting a picture, cropping it, and editing it, then you are not a good photographer. Cropping? You have a 10x zoom! Use it, and you don't need to crop!

You want more features, you want more megapixels, get a more expensive camera. But for me, the S1 IS is everything I need, for the price range I can afford.

I want a camera, 100 megapixels, zoom between 360 degrees and 0.1 arcsecond, low noise (less than 0.000002% rms), adjustable filters between 1a' and 100,000 meters, image size less than 1byte withlossless compression, light weight (under 1oz), plastic so it goes through airport metal detectors without beeping, and, has a built-in 6 foot by 20 foot printer with less than 10 cents per page print cost. And solar or incandescent light powered with thermal piles when I'm holying it in pitch black darkness trying to photograph ghosts, too. And it should auto focus and expose perfectunder all those conditions, too. And even when I'm pointed at the nearest star or at the horsehead nebula -- it must do it all and cost less than a movie ticket 'cause I don't want to miss the next Rocky. This ain't rocket science afterall.

All I's can says is that freaking camera company... why don't they listen to us!!! After all - WE ARE THE CUSTOMERS GAWDAMMIT!

LOL. Now,that's funny. :-)

btw: That dream camera should be able to record feature length movies and also have built in cell phone capabilitiesfor sending photostowherever you need them,on the spot.

While we're at it, I'd also like to see GPS coordinates included in the EXIF info -- oh, and let's add an electronic compass too, just so that we know exactly what direction that camera was pointing. And don't forget, it all needs to be smaller than a wrist watch and not cost an extra cent. Oh yeah, can we get that printing cost to under a nickel per picture?

How hard can it be to include these few extra features?

Looks like the point has been made. Too bad it was wasted on someone with such a small mental capacity that they feel the need to resort to spewing profanities.

:blah:

Stupid - No, Silly - Perhaps, Funny - Definately!:-)

BTW, I have uploaded the latest firmware update for my S1 - it now cooks dinner and watches the kids when we are not at home! Still can't focus for sh-t in low light, but we are saving a ton of money on a babysitter!
