yes, but even at the max light my S1 IS can let in it's still way too dark. It's still life so I can use almost as long of a shutter speed as I want, except my camera stops at 15 seconds. That was the brightest my camera could get the particular scene, and I'd like it 3 stops less noisy and 7 stops brighter, and 5 stops more depth of field.

it mustve been really, REALLY dark because I also own an s1 is and I've taken pics when it was dark outside, way after sundown (10pm) and they look a lot better than yours. Perhaps there's just not enough light and there's no bulb setting on s1 so thats the end of that..?
