I realize that faster is better, but what is the minimum suggested write speed for compact flash in this camera, 2MB/sec, 5MB/sec, 10MB/sec?

thanks, dave

It depends what you want to do... If you are mostly, if not exclusively, taking pictures in regular mode(opposed to continuous), then the slowest speed would serve almost as well as a MUCH faster card. And actually, in most cases, you do not need a fast card.... The operations where you could benefit from a fast card are movie mode, continuous mode, review and when downloading the files to your computer(provided you use a card reader).

I think I should have posed my question more precisely.

At what speed is data transferred from the CCID processor to the buffer (I hopethose are the correct terms)?

Presumably, in order to avoid buffer overruns, I need to be able to empty the buffer as fast as it is being filled if I want to capture frames that are, in total, significantlybigger than the buffer. I don't care at all about downloading speed. I just want the minimum card speed that will avoid buffer overruns in the most demanding camera mode.

The biggest demand on the S1 IS seems to be the video... and that requires 2MB/s I think.. something like 40x memory speed is what I would go for (that's what I got)... so you need a "high speed" memory card...

That's a limitation of the camera--not a speed issue with the memory card...
