I have only had my S1 IS for about 1 month, and the other night I got the E24 error message twice within 1hr. Cleared it by removing the batteries for a period of time.

I have used it since and haven't got the error message again, but Canon.com won't explain what the problem is. Typical, have to send it in for a service.

Can anyone help with what E24 means, and if I should be returning my camera?

If the problem happens again, you should return it I guess... I'm not sure what the E24 error is (at least it's not the somewhat popular E14 error)...

After much searching on the net I believe the e24 error message is to do with the flip/twist screen. A loose connection between this screen and the camera causes this issue.

Why Canon didn't hard-code the camera to just disable the screen for a set period of time and switch to the EVF beats me. At least you could still take pictures instead of looking at 2 black screens.

There is no other camera like the S1 IS with 10x optical, Image Stabiliser, Great picture quality and an awesome movie mode. Fuji s5100 is the closest on price (dodgy manual focus), but the Panasonic DMC20 is better, costs more, but weaker movie mode.
