A technical question: My Canon Powershot A510 has a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 (approx 3.2 megapixels). So, what happens when I set the resolution to "Medium 1" (1600 x 1200) or lower? Are certain pixels on the CCD deliberately skipped in order to achieve the lower resolution? If so, which ones? Just curious.

Pretty sure the pixels are not wasted. The image processor simply combines the data from surrounding pixels to make the new and larger pixel.

In a simple example 2000x1500 becomes 1000x750 if you add4 pixels together ingroups of 2x2 pixels. There are smarter ways of doing this, and I am pretty sure Canon uses them when making non-integer reductions.
