The G5 is a nice little digicam with one of the faster lenses around.

The macro ability is very nice. While I owned one I did quite a bit of closeup work and eBay images with my G5. It was great for that.

Now to the bad part. Don't expect this camera to be a low light champion. Even with the fast lens, the built-in low light AF beam is marginal at best, and that's being kind. If you stay at the wide angle end of the zoom it works much better. Start zooming towards the telephoto end and it eventually won't be able to focus at all unless you are only 3-4 feet away from the subject. Concert photos are not anything I used this camera for, but I expect it won't be a very good camera for that purpose. You'll probably want to zoom it to the tele end of the range and I would fully expect the AF mechanism to balk and be nothing less than a pain in the a$$. If you want a good low light camera for shooting concerts you really need a DSLR and a good tele lens like a 100mm f2 or 200mm f2.8.

For outdoor situations in normal daylight it works great, but realize I rarely used the LCD to focus in daylight unless I was shooting very closeup shots. The LCD can become hard to view in bright light- the optical viewfinder should be used for viewing outdoors. Besides, using the optical finder also gives you a much steadier hand holding position than sticking it out in front of you.

It's a kind of a tease type of camera. You can get great images with it, but the warts are JUST enought of a pain that it can be a very frustrating camera to use, as most any point & shoot digicam is.
