W1zz

Welcome to the forums.

I'm glad they recognize the issue. Please let us know if you run into any issues getting an older model like yours repaired. Hopefully, you'll get your camera back soon, working just like a new one.

Hi all. Just wanted to thank you guys for this forum. My S1 IS just started displaying the typical purple & distorted images 2 weeks ago. Thanks to this forum, I realized I was not alone with this issue and checked the Canon website for my country (Belgium). They recognize the problem and state that they repair affected camera's free of charge. I just sent an e-mail to my local service center asking how to proceed to get my camera repaired.

Will keep you guys posted!

My 5 year of Ixus 400 was returned yesterday from Lehmanns (Took 15 days from sending to receiving).

Good as new :-D

Covering invoice shows that the CCD and CF Reader was replaced. Billed to Cannon.

Sample images of before and after repair.

Many thanks to this forum - I was about to read the camera it's last rights until I found this thread. Which would have been a shame, because this camera is so solid and takes fantastic pictures. Easily out performs some of the more modern (plastic), 8MP cameras I've had the use of.

My S1 IS, purchased in January 2005, started showing the CCD sensor issue about two weeks ago. I called Canon, they e-mailed me a UPS label, and last Monday I mailed it back. This Monday, I got an e-mail from them that it was repaired free of charge and would be returned to me in two days. My S1 IS arrived this morning, and appears to be fully functional. Canon impressed me with their customer service.

Congrats. From time to time, I see someone that isn't quite a lucky. But, for the most part, Canon has done a great job at repairing these models for free (although I think Sony may be eating some of the costs, since they manufactured the CCD sensors that had problems).

I had the camera out this afternoon taking some test pictures, adjusting some settings and trying different things out. It is working perfectly. I would say I am very happy with the service I received.

If not for this forum, I would not have even known about the sensor issue and would probably have left the camera for dead and moved on.
