Default Shooting in Macro Mode - Use Wide angle or telephoto ?

Hi !
I need to shoot an object at close range. The range is not that important as details in the picture. I need to get the object to look as large as possible in the pic. Anyone might know how can i achieve this - by using macro mode with max telephoto angle or macro shoot in max wideangle ? i know the distances of the lens change with zoom...

With attached close up filters you can get very close with the G2..I suggest Manual focus...which is pretty clumsy to use but works...or put in macro mode..zoom in as tight as possible..use highest res and iso 50 and crop what you don't want..Ive taken many very sharp closeups this way.
