My S1IS is about 14 months old and has developed a disliking of new batteries. When i put a new set of batteries in the camera i am lucky to get 2 or 3 shots out before it turns itself. When i try and turn it on again it tyells me i need to change the batteries and turns off. Does anyone have any idea? It is out of wrty now and i am scared it will cost big $$$'s to fix.

Unfortunately many Canon cameras with NiMH sometimes have such problems. With my S1 I didn't experience such problems yet. It is probably related to the battery contacts. May be a contact spray or something similar will help. Note that there are also battery contacts at the bottom of the battery compartment.
