I understood that you main concern is auto-focus - like the reviews say, the H1 is better here. Low contrast focus is a definite problem area - it's even on Canon's support pages and in the manual.

I wasn't disputing this as your main issue, I was just trying to understand how the macro worked in the H2 because I haven't extensively played with any other macro system.

So basically it's like normal macro in the S2 IS, but with a wider range down to 2cm - I'd be happy with that. As I said, I think super-zoom is an attempt to simplify real-close macro for the S2 IS and some other new Canons. Perhaps they're solving a non-existant problem, but I think that's what they're trying to do. And I agree the approach is hacky - they should really remove normal macro, or at least put something like super first - it seems the most useful.

I'm not sure how much of an improvement the H2 is over the H1. I'm curious to read Steve's review when it comes up.From the pictures I've seen ofthe back of the H2/H5, I'm not sure about the new position of the two buttons (menu and ???)on the top right. It seems to me that my thumb willsit right on top ofthem while holding the camera. I also prefer Canon's design with regards tohow the zoom is activated (by the shutter rather thanon the back). On the H1, many times I touched the zoom button by accidentright before taking the picture.I'm also curious astohow much of animprovement the S3is over the S2. I guess we'll have a few interesting months ahead of us and a lot to digest, that's for sure!
