Canon G3 adapter tubes
I bought a Canon conversion lens adapter tube for my G3 so that I could add UV and polarizing filters (Why do they make digital cameras without threads!!).

Anyway, the Canon tube is 58 mm and this causes two problems. First, it blocks the viewfinder. So if you're shooting outside this means that you're shooting blind because can't see through the viewfinder and the LCD isn't bright enough to see either. Second, it blocks the flash and casts a shadow.

So, two questions for anyone who can help.

First, where can you get a smaller diameter tube for the G3 and will it solve these problems? I've only seen one by Kenko (, but I'm not sure of the quality.

Second, is there a hood for the LCD on the G3 and does it make daytime shots possible using the LCD?

Any leads would be appreciated.

for aluminum adaptor tubes w/ either 52mm or 58mm threads.

Thanks, I've checked out the Lensmate site and like the look of the 52mm. I'll return my Canon 58mm tube to the dealer and buy the Lensmate through the Internet. It just means I'll have to change my filter to a smaller size.

I've also discovered a hood made by Hoodman for the G3 that costs about $30 Cdn. I'll try it at the dealers to see if it works well with the articulated LCD on the G3.
