I have an S2 and IR results are fine using a Hoya R72 filter.
See my entry for May 25
The attached photo is repeated here.

drailog and manz, here are the settings .... ISO 100, 1/2 second, f3.2, taken at 6:23PM full daylight on May 17 used a tripod. Enhanced with Photoshop Elements auto level and removed the color .. that's it.
Looking at your web pictures (Great BTW!) it appears that your Olympus is more sensitive to IR. Are you getting an S2 or S3? I have taken a lot of shots in full manual mode, but I've had better luck in Program mode, because I tend to over expose (needs a live histogram) and when that happens a dim outline of the shutter blades appears when viewed on a quality computer monitor, this is not decernable on the camera. I will be watching for the results you get with your new camera.
Happy shooting.
