just like that no image in the viewfinder nor the lcd. but yet the screen still showing all my settings . its as if no light rays is going thru the lens. all buttons still working, even if i take a picture it registers that a frame was taken but still no image any sujestions:?

are you able to transfer the file it creates to your PC to see if there's a picture/anything in this file?

Your dial - which mode is it set to? If you're in M/AV/TV, you might have set it so that it doesn't allow light in - try going to P or Auto (and maybe try them all while you're at it)

Point the camera dirrectly at the sun or a bright light bulb, and take a shot...

And lastly... is the cap off?

i tried everything possible took several pics at different settings,different modes,down load the pics to the computer, the file shows that i have 10 pics which i know i took but yet all the pictures are completely blank, for some reason no light rays is going thru the lens and registering:?

I'd download some .jpg files from my computer to a memory card, preferably ones that came from the camera to begin with. Put the mem card into the camera. If you can view the images, your LCD and EVF are fine, but your sensor probably isn't.

I also have a S1 IS and the display is dark (no image)
Does anybody know what is causing this problem?

I have the same problem..it's dark as if there is a black curtain on the lens..service advised to replace the lens assembly but it's too expensive, like 1/3 of the originalprice of the camera...is it logical to fix it????

Probably for what you can buy a new S2IS for today it is not
