Hey all, I'm looking for a nice pocket camera (the small size of Canon's SD line really grabbed my attention).

I will use it for taking pictures of my friends at school, and for the random snapshot when my Kodak P850 is too big to take along. Basically I want a camera that I can take everywhere that will perform fairly well in a variety of day-to-day situations.

So I was wondering, for anyone who has used it, do you have any trouble with the SD600? Is there a better model in that line for me?

I would say the '600 is perfect for what you described unless ... (read on)

I was going to buy a '600 myself but when I saw the SD700 I decided I wantedits 4x optical zoom so my mind was made up despite the '700 being a bit bulkier. I got the '700 last week and it seems to be exactly what I expected. For my purposes both are the same except for the zoom.

Hmm, I was looking at the SD700 IS. Image Stabilizatio is definately a plus, but going from 3 to 4 times zoom isn't really important to me. (My main camera has 12x zoom, so either one will feel ridiculously small). I was also concerned about the price. The SD700 costs more than my main camera, and it isn't nearly as advanced. So I just don't think it's worth it for me, seeing as all my hardcore nature photography will be done with my Kodak P850.

I've had my SD600 for about a week now and I REALLY like it. I didn't expect it to be as good as it is but I was suprised. My decision to buy the 600 was simply budget. Paid $284 (free shipping)from BeachCamera and noticed today it's 5 bucks cheaper than that now. Honestly, it takes almost as good of pics as my Panasonic FZ30. No kidding. It's a good bet that by what you describe you're looking for you'll really dig the SD600.

I was faced with the same problem as you, wanting a camera that I could have with me all the time. Lets face it the best camera is the one you have with you. I have two DSLR's and Canon 20D and a Digital Rebel, but you just can't wear them around your neck all the time. I actually picked up an SD400 a few months ago, and it is perfect, not a lot of controls, but takes really good pictures and fits right in you pocket. I don't think you will be dissapointed in the SD600 at all.

I've had my SD600 for about 2 months and I'm very happy with it. I bought it because it's small and light and I like Canon cameras. I think 6mp is plenty of resolution for me since I rarely enlarge or crop my photos. I didn't get the 550 or the 700 mainly because these other cameras are bulkier and heavier. I just came back from 2 weeks in Europe and returned with over 600 great photos.

I bought the s60 a few years ago mainly for the features. It also takes great shots and has many more controls. But I found that I usually didn't use most of the controls and I didn't take the camera with me most of the time because it was too bulky.
