Since the Z30 has fewer pixels on the same size sensor, does it havebetter image quality over the Z40 ? I ask since I am pretty keen on getting one or the other (and can't wait for the new Canon SD300 which seems ideal)

z-30 has the same lens, so the image quality is bad in both cameras. I had z-40 for a week and it was not good. Of course z-30 might be a little better, but still not very good.

I will wait for the new canons, they seem to be ideal for me, too. sd200 wasn't even very expensive. It is also interesting to see if z-50/55 has improved picture quality.

Yes, I'm waiting for a review of either the Z50/55 too (and since I think it uses the same lens, the Pentax s5i) Actually, things might not be too bad - the Canon Australia website says the new Canons will be available from October 1 (though oddly, the SD300 before the SD200)
