sorry if this simplistic but I've been looking at the reviews of the Casio EX-Z50 and Z55 and was wondering if the docking station is a requirement to charge the battery. I do a lot of traveling and always looking for ways to lighten the load.

Is there any way to charge the battery (or a spare) without docking the camera? thanks!

I think casio makes a wall charger for the battery, you'll have to take the battery out of the camera and put it in the charger, and also good luck finding it. I'm sure, like much of the accessories casio offers, I don't think it is widely available. You should be able to find a knock off on ebay, i'd search for the battery model number. NP40 I think? well for the Z50 at least.
