why does my EX-Z750 say "Made in China"

when Steve's Z750 say "Made in Japan" ?

I bought it from The Sharper Image last night.

They had almost 10 in stock and the salesman

checked all of them and showed "Made In China"

on the cameras.(also on the outside of the box)

Where can I buy one that's "Made in Japan" ???

This photo from Steve's Digicams... look upside

down and you'll see that it says "Made in Japan"

This is my very first post here. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Mine says "Made in Japan"

A possible explenation is, that first series of the camera are produced in Japan. When all the bugs have been found and corrected, they move the final high volume production to China ?

They usually do it that way. The first batch of the product usually got constructed in Japan, and once they consider to mass produce it they move the production line to China/Malaysia/Thai, etc

This is correct, although they often continue to make them in Japan for the Japanese market only.

I am currently shopping for the 750 in Singapore, and I've come across both versions:

The 'Made in Japan' as per the photo from SD review in what looked like a reputable store.

A 'Made in China' version with 'Tokyo, Japan' where the 'Made in Japan' plate is, and a 'Made in China' label stuck near the tripod mount & crade connector.

The 'Made in Japan' model was quoted at U$427.
The 'Made in China' model could be had for U$315.

I've also been warned that there could be 'black market' versions in circulation.

Has anyone noticed any problems with their 'Chinese' model's image quality?

I got a Chinese version and haven't had any problems with it. The pictures are sharp, speed is up to specs, and it seems to have bypassed some of the teething problems of the early models. For that price difference I wouldn't hesitate to by the Chinese model. In fact, I might choose it at the same price since you know it is a late model.

I have no knowledge of gray market Casios.

Mine is a Japan one.

There are no fake ones out there as far as i know but there are fake batteries.
I got a boxed Casio battery the other day and it has no hologram where as the one in the camera does. Not sure if its a fake or not however............

My first one from Futureshop was made in Japan. I had to return it for a reason. When I bought it the second time around, it was Made In China. If there's anything wrong, I can just bring it back to Futureshop.. I bought a 4 year Performance Service Plan..

yearsterday i bought a made in china model, and i'm having MAJOR over-saturation. i've taken a few portraits in the garden with some flowers as backdrops, and the person's face is almost as red as a tomato (they weren't bluching either!!). i just upgraded the firmware to 1.01 becasue i heard that it fixed the over-saturation. i'll check it out tomorrow. other than the pics, the camera kicks major butt.
