My Exilim EX-Z4U starts OK in record mode some of the time, but mostly it starts to a pure black screen, or to a pure pinkish-white screen. Sometimes to a black screen with a single flashing horizontal scan-line. I have to cycle it several times before it comes on properly, and then I can take pictures OK.

I upgraded the firmware to v.1.02; it didn't help.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Is there a fix for this?

Hi ezeflyer,

Unfortunately I don't think there is an easy fix. It sounds to me like the ribbon cable on the LCD may be damaged or perhaps the connector from the PCB to the Ribbon Cable.

If it's less than a year old you can send it to CASIO for repair under warranty.

Thanks and good luck.

Thanks Skelly,

I thought it might be something like that. It's out of warranty. Darn. Anyway, I borrowed another one like it for the time being, and have orderd an Exilim Z750. I may send it back and pay for the repair; it's a camera that's worth it!
