After reams of blurry photos I was ready to give the Z750 away until, after reading the forums all afternoon I realised the focus frame never went green. It only worked after I zoomed in and out a few times for no purpose. Is this the way it's supposed to be or do I have a faulty camera? I haven't checked to see if it's improved the photos yet.

Is your firmware up to date and what are your settings and what are you shooting?

At what distance?

I've had a bit of trouble occasionally on my EX-Z750 when shooting low-contrast distant subjects, especially when zoomed in.I think it may just be inadequate image contrast for the focusing system to work. I use manual focus and guess the distance, or set to infinity. You need some strong vertical lines in the image, ideally.

Good luck, Alan T

I've updated the firmware and it's set to autofocus and auto everything else. The focus frame doesn't get green on anything, cat, tree, chair ...... until I zoom in and out two or three times, after that it's fine for the day. Next day, same thing happens. I can focus manually. Does it warrant a mention to the warranty people?

Sounds like it to me. Hard luck. I'm delighted with mine.

I am having the exact same trouble - nothing but blurry pictures unless I"m standing just 2 feet away from subject. In fact, I just logged into this forum to try and find a solution. I did what you said worked for you - zoomed in and out a couple times. Now - it works perfectly. Sounds like we may have the exact same defect. Please post if you find a solution and I will do the same...

Also, how do you update the firmware??

See http://world.casio.com/qv/download/en/

Check which version you've got first. The website says....

"...hold down the [MENU] button as you press the [POWER ON/OFF] switch to turn on the camera. Keep [MENU] depressed until the version of your camera's firmware appears on the monitor screen."

My EX-Z750, bought in the UK in late August, already had v1.01 from new.

Good luck!

I emailed the Casio service centre. The technical services supervisor said it shouldn't happen and to send it in for repair. Some days I have to zoom in and out four or five times before it will autofocus, other days it loosens up after one zoom but after 30 minutes of non use it seizes up again so I will be sendingmine back.

Thanks for the info. I was able to update the firmware, and of course, that didn't fix the problem. I will be sending mine in as well. Although I will probably wait until after the holidays now.
