The menu offers a metering choice of: multi, center weighted and spot. Which one do you use and why/when.

I think the design intention of the camera is to primarily use matrix. Center weighted is for light or dark from the edges that would affect the exposure balance. Spot is designed for backlighting in things like portraits.

I probably use spot metering more than most people. It is essential for a backlit face or building with the part you want exposed in shadows. But I often use it to bracket both the exposure and white balance by pre-metering on different parts of an image. That works especially well for sunsets.
