I would not recommend turning it on, since a date/time stamp can ruin the appearance of images, especially if the color of the stamp clashes with your subject.

Your images will contain the date and time the photo was taken in a header in the images themselves without the need to enable this function in the camera.

You can see this information with many editors. A free editor that can view this information is Irfanview. After opening an image, you'll find it under "Image, Information, EXIF"

Some printing software can also use this information and print it on images you want it printed on, without the need to have it on the original image. That way, you won't have an unsightly time stamp on photos that you may want to print at different sizes without one.

But, if you really want to enable a timestamp on your images from the camera, you'll it under the Functions 2 menu choice.
