The main part of the picture is reflection.

I really like this shot, what is making the checkerbord background in the reflection?

Thanks ft.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"I took a chess board and set it upright leaning against the back of a couch, and then sat the tabletop on the seat of the couch so the board and the tabletop formed a right angle.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Initially, I was going to use the reflection of the chess boardto create the squares on the tabletop, and then line the chess pieces up with the reflections of the squares, but after I realized how vivid the reflections were going to be I mostly focused (pun intended) on the pieces themselves.

Very cool picture. Now if i could only play chess as well as you can shoot it i would be a champion.

I really like this picture. The composition is excellent! My only thought... is the wood on those pieces too yellow, or is that the actual color they are?

Keep up the good work!

Gandalf065:

Thanks! Actually, the reflections are pretty darn close to the actual color of the originals (though maybe a little darker). The non-reflected portions of the pieces are overexposed by the flash, which caused them to appear far lighter than they are in reality.
